Begun in 2010 with a grant from The Heinz Endowments Education Program, the Youth Media Advocacy Project works to empower teens to express their most authentic selves through media, with an emphasis on education reform and the school environment.

Services offered:

  • Engagement with Pittsburgh youth
  • Assisting with media creation
  • Research for education reform

YMAP takes place every year in middle and high school classrooms in Pittsburgh, linking youth organizing, pedagogy and media advocacy to support creating positive change in area schools and communities. The project works to improve education and the school environment by identifying and analyzing problems and creating media to advocate for change. Students collaborate with community leaders and professionals, research problems and create media, which they distribute through social media and news platforms.

YMAP is a collaboration between Carlow University and Saturday Light Brigade Radio, Inc.
