This year’s 96th commencement marks a milestone for Carlow University. A total of 792 students were invited to the ceremony this year, marking the largest graduating class in our nearly century-long history.

Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1929, Carlow is known for empowering students to lead with compassion, integrity, and a devotion to service. This year’s graduates reflect our mission-driven community, representing a broad range of academic disciplines and professional pathways. Here, we are redefining what a leader looks like — and it looks like a Carlow graduate.

A proud Carlow alum of the class of 1967, Sister Sheila has served for the past 18 years as the University’s Special Assistant to the President for Mercy Heritage & Service. In this role, she has been instrumental in advancing Mercy identity, deepening mission integration, and expanding community-engaged initiatives across campus.

“Sister Sheila embodies the very best of us,” said Carlow President Kathy Humphrey, PhD. “Her impact on Carlow is both profound and deeply personal. As an alum, a Sister of Mercy, and a trusted member of our leadership community, she has helped define what it means to live our mission each day. As our graduates prepare to take the next step, they will hear from someone who has spent her life putting mercy into action.”
