Devoted to the Future of Discovery

Carlow education, math, and science graduates are different than other college graduates. We know that now, more than ever, our nation needs skilled and compassionate educators and researchers, people with a deeper understanding of how to teach and serve, discovering new ways for us all to thrive in community.

Our education and STEM programs don’t just focus on putting teachers in schools, we work to remove barriers to education - both for our students, and the students they teach. Carlow empowers STEM students to make a difference in under-served spaces, and provides scaffolding and support to actual be able to take advantage of real-world internships and placements. So when they graduate, a Carlow teacher, scientist or mathematician is a different kind of human - the kind our world needs.

Carlow education, math, and science graduates are different; they are skilled and compassionate people with a deeper understanding of teaching and service. We don't just train teachers and STEM professionals; we dismantle educational barriers and empower our graduates to effect change in underserved areas, creating new ways to thrive in community. So upon graduation, they emerge as a different kind of human - the kind our world needs.

Early Education (Rae Ann Hirsh Apprenticeship Hub):

"Being part of The Rae Ann Hirsh Apprenticeship Hub transformed my early education journey. Their support enabled me to pursue my degree while working, offering scheduling, financial aid, mentorship, and more. Thanks to them, I earned my Bachelor's in Early Learning and Child Development. But the impact goes far beyond just earning a degree. The Hub empowered me to find my voice and use it to advocate for change in early education. Now, I mentor students, participate in advisory boards, and even advocate in DC alongside White House officials, all thanks to the doors this program opened for me.” — Brieanne Rice, ’23 Early Ed Graduate

Special Education

“In most programs, autism education is not part of the Special Ed curriculum - at Carlow, it is embedded into the program. Undergraduate students learn not only a myriad of disability supports from K-12, they also learn how to tackle the greater systemic issues, fighting for equity in special education at schools, not overrepresentation.” —Keely Baronak, EdD, Department Chair

Master's of Education (MEd)

“The Scholar-Practitioner paradigm is the central, organizing theme of Carlow’s education program, and it is a beautiful, living philosophy that informs everything faculty and students do together. As a full-time educator, it is more important to me than ever that my professional learning opportunities mirror and have resonance and utility with my daily work. I can say unequivocally that this was true of my coursework at Carlow.” — Wes Garis, 2024 Graduate

Secondary Education

“The students that succeed in our Secondary Education degree programs are not afraid to ask hard questions, not satisfied with status quo. Our faculty understand the reality of what it means to be a high school teacher today— they respect that challenge while also asking, How can we make it better? How can we change the system and embedded practices that are damaging for students? How can we prepare teachers to be socially and culturally responsive so they can reach young people and make a real impact?” —-Sean Freeland, Program Director
