Incoming graduate students who meet all required admission criteria for the program are eligible for this scholarship.

As a Sister of Mercy, Sister Rita Alice Fitzgerald joined the Carlow community in 1956. In 1964, she was appointed to be the first Chairperson of Carlow’s Department of Speech Pathology and served until 1989. She had a remarkable career as a speech-language pathologist with numerous awards and honors including one of the highest professional honors, Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She has been described as a person of integrity and honesty, who devoted herself to Carlow’s mission. She was an inspiration to all and a pioneer in providing transformational educational opportunities.

The Carlow University Speech-Language Pathology Program Support Fund was created in 2024 to support the growth and success of Carlow University’s Department of Speech-Language Pathology. The fund assists the department in fulfilling its mission and vision to provide innovative educational opportunities and exceptional training for students.

Your support to this fund is not merely a donation; it’s a gift to strengthen and grow the department’s mission and vision. Your donation will fuel innovative educational opportunities and shape exceptional training experiences for the budding speech-language pathologists of tomorrow. The Carlow University Speech-Language Pathology Program Support Fund resonates far beyond the MS SLP Program. Your generous donation also reaches into the hallways of the Carlow University Speech-Language Pathology Clinic, extending pro bono services to the local community. Established in 2021 as the sole pro bono clinic in the greater Pittsburgh region, the clinic offers vital diagnostic and treatment services for children and adults with communication needs. Located on Carlow University’s campus, the SLP Clinic proudly serves the local community of Oakland and the surrounding Pittsburgh area. Your donation paves the way for those who depend on our services.
