Unmistakably Carlow

Signs of Pride, Progress, and Purpose

Step onto Carlow’s campus and you’ll notice something new — bold signage that makes Carlow impossible to miss and even harder to forget.

These signs do more than guide your way. They tell a story of pride, progress, and purpose, welcoming every student, faculty member, alum, and visitor with a bold reflection of who we are and where we’re going. For our community and those who may soon join it, the message is unmistakable: Carlow is visible, vibrant, and ready for the future.

"When St. Patrick first arrived in Ireland, the people there worshipped the sun. He was, for a while, uncertain about how to introduce them to the Christian God. But then he had an idea. He picked a shamrock, and he used that to introduce the people to a God who shares our human experience and a God who inspires us. Isn’t that exactly the kind of God a university needs? So, let’s commit to remembering, each time we pass this shamrock, that it not only represents the charm of our University, but it reminds us of our good God who journeys with us."

-Sister Sheila Carney

Touching the shamrock is a spirited tradition among our students, symbolizing hope and good luck.
