PITTSBURGH, PA — The Carlow University Department of Athletics is excited to announce James Rice as the inaugural head coach for Baseball.
Rice joins Carlow by way of Wilmington (Ohio) College where he was the assistant coach for two years. Prior to Wilmington, Rice spent three seasons coaching teams in the Old North State League in North Carolina.
“We are thrilled to welcome James to Carlow as the inaugural head coach of our baseball program,” Interim Director of Athletics Karina Graziani said. “His commitment to Mercy Values and his vision for the program aligns well with the mission and vision of the Department and the University as a whole.”
Coach Rice is no stranger to the area or to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. He is a graduate of Greensburg Central Catholic High School and earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Mount Aloysius College, where he was a member of the baseball team. He played for Mount Aloysius in the AMCC when the team won a conference championship in 2022 and earned a trip to the NCAA Regional Tournament.
“I am very excited and honored for the opportunity to start a baseball program at Carlow University that will align with the mission and vision of the University,” said Coach Rice. “Being able to start something that has never been done here before is thrilling and will open new opportunities for so many people. Carlow is filled with great people that care about overall success of students and creating an environment where student-athletes can thrive on and off the field. I look forward to being a part of the culture at Carlow and getting this baseball program started.”
In addition to coaching duties, Rice will be responsible for facilities and establishing consistent intramural programs on campus.
