“Walking Into the Chaos of Others” places among top 5% of entries nationwide
PITTSBURGH, PA – Carlow University has received a Gold Award in the 2024 Collegiate Advertising Awards for its original documentary, Walking Into the Chaos of Others. The honor places Carlow’s entry in the top 5% of submissions nationwide, recognizing outstanding creative work in higher education marketing and communications.
The award-winning documentary, created by Carlow’s Marketing and Communications team in association with the Storyhaus Agency, traces the journey of the Sisters of Mercy from Carlow, Ireland to Pittsburgh in the 19th century, culminating in the founding of Mount Mercy College—now Carlow University—in 1929. Through archival footage, interviews, and original cinematography, the film brings to life the University’s enduring legacy of compassion, justice, and service.
“This recognition isn’t just for a single project,” said John Cardone, Vice President for Marketing and Communications at Carlow. “It’s a testament to the power of storytelling—and to the people at Carlow who live out our mission every day. Our goal was to make something that felt essentially Carlow: rooted in our Mercy heritage, personal in its delivery, and clear in its purpose. I’m proud of our team and the entire campus community who helped bring this story to life.”
The Collegiate Advertising Awards is a prestigious national program honoring excellence in college and university marketing, communications, and promotions. Submissions are evaluated by a panel of industry experts on criteria including creativity, layout and design, message effectiveness, production quality, and overall appeal. Carlow’s entry earned a Gold designation, awarded to projects scoring between 95–99 points—placing it among the very best in the field.
This is the third award Carlow’s Marketing and Communications department has earned in the past year, further highlighting the university’s strategic investment in mission-driven storytelling.
More than an institutional milestone, this award reflects the spirit of a university community that continues to walk alongside others in moments of need—just as the Sisters of Mercy did nearly 200 years ago.
