PITTSBURGH, PA — Carlow University has been selected as a partner institution of the Steel City Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) unit, providing new opportunities for Carlow nursing students to pursue military service as commissioned officers in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps.
Through this partnership, Carlow students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program will be eligible to apply for the Navy ROTC Nursing Option Scholarship, which provides full tuition support and a pathway to a commission upon graduation. The Steel City NROTC unit, headquartered at Carnegie Mellon University, also serves Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh, and now extends its network to include Carlow.
“Being selected as an NROTC partner institution demonstrates how Carlow’s nursing program is viewed at a national level,” said Jason Krall, MBA, Carlow’s Associate Provost for Online & Academic Operations and a U.S. Army National Guard veteran. “This partnership expands the ways our students can pursue meaningful service and find financial support for their education.”
Dr. Rhonda Maneval, Carlow’s Interim Provost and Dean of the College of Health and Wellness, said the collaboration aligns with the university’s longstanding commitment to preparing compassionate, highly skilled nurses who serve with integrity. “Carlow nurses have a legacy of responding where care is needed most,” Maneval said. “This partnership builds on that tradition by preparing graduates to lead and serve with both expertise and heart.”
Prospective students interested in Carlow’s nursing program and the new NROTC opportunity are invited to attend Nursing Visit Day on November 15, 2025. Register here or call 412-578-6059 to register.
