The Inauguration of Suzanne K. Mellon, PhD, Carlow University’s tenth president, on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. will culminate a weeklong celebration at the Oakland campus.

The Inauguration Week activities include:

Monday, March 31, 2014
High Performance Learning in Action
The School of Education and The Campus School of Carlow University Student Demonstrations will be held in the Campus School Library in Tiernan Hall from 12:30 until 2 p.m.

Study Abroad and International Student Art Show and Presentation
Students from the Center for Global Learning will showcase their art from 1 until 2 p.m. on the second floor of Aquinas Hall.

Carlow in the Community
The Grace Ann Geibel Institute for Justice and Social Responsibility will highlight some of their initiatives from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. in A.J. Palumbo Hall of Science and Technology, Room 107.

Tuesday, April 1, 2014
Advances in Healthcare Practices
The School of Nursing will present some of the latest advances in health care practice from 12:30 until 2 p.m. in Kresge Theatre, located on the fifth floor of Grace Library.

Carlow Cabaret
A musical event will take place from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. in the Frances Warde Hall  lobby.

Wednesday, April 2, 2014
Undergraduate Scholarship Day
Undergraduate students present special research projects that they have worked on in the A.J. Palumbo Hall of Science and Technology from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

   Honors Convocation
The annual Honors Convocation is a day for undergraduate students to be honored for their academic achievements.  The awards will be presented from 3 until 5 p.m. in the Rosemary Heyl Theatre in Antonian Hall.

Graduate Colloquium
Graduate students present their research findings from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. in the A.J. Palumbo Hall of Science and Technology.

Thursday, April 3, 2014
Helping Hands – In the Spirit of Catholic Social Justice
An all-campus service project will take place in the gymnasium of St. Joseph Hall from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.  Meals will be packaged for Catholic Relief Services for distribution to needy people in West Africa.

Friday, April 4, 2014
Inaugural Mass
A Mass to celebrate the Inauguration of Dr. Mellon will take place at St. Paul Cathedral, Fifth and N. Craig Street, at 1:30 p.m.  The Most Reverend David Zubik, Bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, will celebrate the Mass.

All-Campus Reception
Immediately following the Mass, from approximately 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., there will be an all campus reception in the Atrium of the A.J. Palumbo Hall of Science and Technology.

Saturday, April 5, 2014
    Inaugural Procession
A procession down the main driveway will take place from Grace Library to the entrance to the Rosemary Heyl Theatre in Antonian Hall beginning at 10:45 a.m.

Installation Ceremony
The installation ceremony for Dr. Mellon will begin at 11 a.m. in the Rosemary Heyl Theatre located in Antonian Hall.

Reception
Following the installation, a reception will be held in the Saint Agnes Center of Carlow University from noon until 2 p.m.

Public Reading by Edna O’Brien

A public reading by Edna O’Brien, award-winning Irish author, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Carlow’s Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing, will take place in the Rosemary Heyl Theatre in Antonian Hall at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $15 per person; $5 for students.

With the exception of the service project on Thursday, all events are open to the public.  The reading by Edna O’Brien is the only event during the week for which there is a charge.
