Graduate Health Sciences Students Benefit from State-of-the Art Facility and Innovative Curriculum
PITTSBURGH – Carlow University’s Board of Trustees joined President Kathy Humphrey, PhD, faculty, staff and students in the blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the University’s new Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Teaching & Learning Lab.
Located on the top floor of the Antonian building of the Oakland campus, the state-of-the-art Carlow University Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Teaching & Learning Laboratory was made possible through private grants and a $1 million Regional Community Assistance Partnership (RCAP) award from the state of Pennsylvania. The opening of the Teaching & Learning Lab is also a special occasion as the University celebrates National Physical Therapy Month.
“We are dedicated to meeting the 21st century needs of students and the workplace,” said Rhonda Maneval, DEd, Dean of the College of Wellness, as she welcomed attendees. “That’s why we created four new graduate health sciences programs and this new Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Teaching & Learning Lab, which has been a labor of love for so many.”
At Carlow, each of the graduate health science programs intertwines with one another during courses and simulations providing students with an experiential learning journey, most like on-the-job training.
“The new Teaching & Learning Lab provides for hands-on student learning experiences based upon an innovative curriculum focused on holistic care that goes well beyond clinical competencies,” said President Kathy Humphrey, PhD. “This unique approach provides for graduates not only ready to enter the workforce, but also prepared to make a difference in the lives of their patients.”
