Pittsburgh, Pa. – Bestselling author, entrepreneur, tax and forensic accountant, and Carlow Unviersity alumna Bernadette L. Harris, MBA, CFE, is Carlow’s 2018 Executive-in-Residence for its MBA, Master’s in Fraud and Forensics, and The Atkins Endowed Center for Ethics.

Her initial lecture is titled “Professional Responsibility: Doing the Right Thing Isn’t Always the Easy Thing” on Monday, January 22, 2018, at 6 p.m. in the Kresge Center, located on the fifth floor of University Commons on the Carlow campus.  The lecture is free and open to the public.

“Bernadette L. Harris has helped hundreds of business owners put systems in place to protect their businesses and prepare for growth in an ethical way,” said William S. Schweers, JD, the inaugural executive director of the Atkins Endowed Center for Ethics at Carlow.  “She is a dynamic speaker and an expert at taking complex business and accounting issues and making them simple.”

A tax and forensic accountant, who graduated from Carlow’s master’s program in fraud and forensics in 2015, Harris is the #1 bestselling author on Amazon for her 2017 book titled “Did You Hire a Fraud?  Solid Safeguards to Prevent Insider Theft.”  She has also authored “Business Blueprint 2.0: A Guide to Starting and Running Your Business THE RIGHT WAY (2016),” and 2014’s “Life and Basketball: 7 Locker Room Lessons that Score Big in Life.”

A certified fraud examiner (CFE), Harris, who is president of “By the Book Accounting,” has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs across the country start, run, and grow thriving ventures.  She earned her BS in accounting from Cheyney University of PA, and later earned her MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management, as well as an MS in fraud and forensics from Carlow.  While at Cheyney, Harris served as basketball team captain, a peer tutor, and a resident advisor.  She launched By the Book Accounting in 2001, but before that she taught algebra and geometry and led a high school basketball team to a district championship during her first years of coaching.  She has also taught accounting as an adjunct instructor.  She has been featured in local and national media, and her website is https://trustbernadette.com.
