Dr. Tim Phillips has worked in higher education for over 30 years. Currently he serves as Vice President of Student Affairs & Dean of Students at Carlow University, a role held since 2018. In his role he oversees university retention and persistence, manages student conduct and Title IX initiatives, and leads the Student Affairs division. Offices of direct responsibility include Athletics, Career Development, Center for Academic Achievement, Disabilities Services, Equity and Inclusion, Fitness and Wellness, Health and Counseling Services, Residence Life, and Student Activities.
Tim’s listening and response provides general student advocacy for needs that arise. He is deeply committed to improving access to higher education, increasing affordability for college, and helping those historically under resourced to successfully complete degrees. Prior to serving at Carlow, Tim held roles at St. Ambrose University (IA), Central College (IA), Saint Louis University (MO), and Millikin University (IL). He earned his A.B. from Washington University (English Literature), M.A. from St. Louis University (Human Development Counseling), and his Ph.D. at Iowa State University (Education).
When not working, Tim enjoys being active outdoors, time with family, and serving unmet needs in the community. Tim and Erin (Founding Director of the Occupational Therapy programs at Carlow University) have five children.
