Carrie L. Stott joined the faculty of Carlow University in January 2020 as an assistant professor with the Masters of Social Work Program and has served as the MSW Program Director since 2022. Her early career included over 10 years of medical social work practice in the areas of critical care, trauma, and hospice. Captivated by the vast ethical dilemmas challenging healthcare professionals, consumers, and organizations, she elected to pursue doctoral work in healthcare ethics which concluded with a dissertation titled, An Ethics of Care Approach to Managing the Burden of Alzheimer’s Disease. In an effort to advance ethics education for aspiring and established healthcare professionals, she has taught various healthcare ethics courses to undergraduate and graduate students and provides regular professional development opportunities to clinicians from an array of health-related disciplines.

Dr. Stott is also committed to enhancing social work ethics education as she is passionate about fostering the future generation of social workers to be ethically minded leaders. She uses her ethics expertise in course development and curriculum design within Carlow’s MSW Program. She assisted Carlow’s MSW Program with its initial accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education and successfully led the program through its most recent reaffirmation process. She earned a certification in online teaching and guided the MSW Program in transitioning from a partially in-person program to a fully online program. She holds lead roles in two federally funded projects with grants from the Health Resources and Service Administration and the Department of Education that support her teaching and research interests of advancing the integrated health workforce serving vulnerable populations in medically underserved areas, improving access to services, and reducing stigma associated with mental health to promote social and economic justice.
