Lucas Gildea brings enthusiasm, leadership, and a student-centered approach to his role as a Physical Education teacher at Carlow Laboratory School. With a strong foundation in health and physical education from Slippery Rock University, Lucas is passionate about helping students discover the joy of movement while building lifelong skills that support physical, emotional, and social well-being.
At Carlow, Lucas is devoted to creating an inclusive and encouraging PE environment where every student—regardless of skill level—feels motivated, safe, and supported. Drawing from his background in coaching, mentoring, and youth development, he designs lessons that promote teamwork, confidence, and perseverance. Whether it’s through creative fitness challenges, modified team sports, or cooperative games, Lucas focuses on helping each student grow at their own pace while fostering a strong sense of community and belonging.
His experience working with diverse age groups—from preschoolers to high school students—has shaped his ability to differentiate instruction and connect with students on a personal level. Lucas’s work with organizations like the Sampson YMCA and Kids in Action reflects his commitment to inclusive education, particularly when supporting students with disabilities or those who need a little extra encouragement. At Carlow, he brings these values into every class by ensuring that movement is accessible, meaningful, and fun for all.
As a former captain of the Slippery Rock University Men’s Soccer Team, Lucas understands the power of sports to teach discipline, leadership, and collaboration. He incorporates these principles into his teaching, often tying physical education to broader life lessons. He also continues to stay involved in youth sports as an assistant coach with the Plum Soccer Club, helping young athletes build skills both on and off the field.
Lucas holds several health and safety certifications, including CPR, and CDC Healthy Schools training. He believes strongly in modeling a healthy, active lifestyle for his students and is constantly looking for new ways to connect movement with wellness.
Above all, Lucas is devoted to making physical education a space where students feel empowered, supported, and excited to move. He is proud to be part of the Carlow Laboratory School team and looks forward to continuing to build strong, lasting relationships with students, families, and colleagues through the lens of movement, health, and play
