Anna Barch Sproul has been teaching General Music at The Campus Laboratory School since 2002. During that time, she has worked with all CLS students each year in weekly music classes, PS-8th grade. Anna has directed the 5th-8th grade spring musical since 2018. She has taught and coached students from her private music studio, in piano, voice, ukulele, guitar, drums, and audition preparation. Anna has studied the Responsive Classroom approach extensively, both independently and as part of the CLS initiatives, and is also dedicated to understanding human development and how it influences behavior. In addition to teaching music at CLS, Anna has also offered many creative Elective options for students in grades 3-8, including Jam Sessions, Stop Motion, Drum Circle, Hand Sewing, Dungeons and Dragons, Drama Club, and Gaming. She really enjoys working with the students, teachers, and families at CLS.

Anna attended Brookville Area High School, graduating in 1995. While there, she was very active in Choir and Orchestra, and participated in the BAHS musicals for 5 years. She then attended Grove City College, and graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. Anna studied vocal music with Judith Hughes, and was also a paid piano accompanist, a member of the Touring Choir for all 4 years, and was one of the winners of the 1999 GCC Concerto Competition, in which she sang Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasilieras No. 5 with the GCC Orchestra. In the summers, Anna was a camp counselor, arts & crafts director, initiative course facilitator, and music leader at Camp Crestfield in Slippery Rock, PA.

At Duquesne University, Anna studied vocal performance and opera with Mia Novich, performed in numerous Opera Workshops, and sang 2 graduate recitals while earning her Master of Arts in vocal performance. Directly after graduating from Duquesne (the next week in fact), Sister Mary Paul Hickey called Anna to substitute in music class for the last month of school, and she has been working there ever since.

Anna loves art in its many forms. She enjoys reading, creating, and cooking. Anna lives with her husband Todd and her son Ivan in North Braddock.
