Elizabeth Zimmerman-Clayton, DSW, LCSW, MSW (She/her) entered the working world at age 14 where she adorned a purple dragon costume as the mascot of Dutch Wonderland, an amusement park. Today, Dr. ZC is an Assistant Professor of Social Work for the Bachelor of Social Work Program at Carlow University and still aims to bring some whimsy to her work whenever possible. Her students are her favorite part of this work, and Dr. ZC is always looking for innovative ways to create a memorable learning experience. She also strives to foster an empowering learning environment that is both challenging and a safe space for students to engage. Having practiced in healthcare settings and mental health private practice, she integrates her knowledge and experience of case management, crisis intervention, and individual/family therapy. Dr. ZC has taught across the curriculum in the areas of: Introduction to Social Work, Human Behavior in the Social Environment, Mental Health, Gerontology Social Policy, Grief and Loss, Research Methods, Social Work Practice in Communities, Groups, and Organizations, Direct Practice and Theory, and Crisis Intervention. Prior to joining the Carlow community, she worked as both a staff and faculty member for School of Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. ZC’s educational background includes: B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from The Pennsylvania State University, Master of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh, and most recently, Doctor of Social Work from Millersville University.
