Dean shares numerous student events as Allegheny County positivity rate falls

Dear Students,

COVID-19 infections continued to drop this week in Allegheny County, falling below a 10% positivity rate. Nonetheless, the county remains in the high-risk category. Details on the “County View” may be found by clicking here. County officials continue to recommend wearing masks in public indoor spaces, consistent with campus policy. Please review additional important information for you to know.

Responding to Health Issues

As we navigate the pandemic environment, please use the following guidelines:

  • Regardless of vaccination status, if you have any COVID-19-related symptoms, please do not come to campus. Instead, please contact Health Services, 412-578-6474, and/or your primary care physician (PCP) for further guidance.

When symptomatic, students are encouraged to communicate directly with faculty regarding course requirements and maintaining progress in a remote status.

Celtic Celebration Student Volunteers Needed for March 19!

Celtic Celebration (Admitted Students Day) will be taking place on Saturday, March 19! The Admissions Office is looking for student volunteers to help welcome admitted students to campus with Carlow pride!

Opportunities include directing families to their sessions, handing out masks, chatting with families during lunch and helping with set-up and tear-down. Volunteers are needed from 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. The deadline to sign-up is Friday, March 4 at 5 p.m. For questions, please email Gabby Adams at .     This event will occur weekly on Tuesdays throughout Lenten season. Join us to explore nonviolence in the gospel and why it matters. National speakers will be presenting on this topic with local discussion with others in the community.
  • Wednesday, March 2: Ash Wednesday
    Mass will be held at 8:30 a.m. in the Antonian Heil Theater. This service will include distribution of ashes. For those that cannot attend the Mass, you can visit The Center for Mercy Heritage on the second floor of the University Commons for ashes from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and from 3 – 4 p.m. Distribution of ashes will also be available at the AJP Atrium from 5 – 6:00 p.m.

  • Wednesday, March 2 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. @ Gailliot Center: Groom: A Framework for Pursuing Holistic Wellness
    Keeping the Promise, Athletics, Equity and Inclusion, and Project Safe will be bringing Donovan Daniels, Go-Founder and CEO of Grizzled Teddy Company to campus for a discussion on achieving holistic wellness. This event focuses on healthy masculinity through the Groom Framework. This framework a process that individuals, organizations, and systems can engage in to achieve homeostasis, profitability, success, and wellness.
  • Thursday, March 3 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. @ UC323: Interview with Confidence
    Join the Office of Career Development for this presentation to learn more about interviewing so you can feel prepared and confident for future interviews! Free coffee bar!
  • Thursday, March 3 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. @ Gailliot Center: “Rejecting White Christianity”
    Featuring Rev. Dr. Miguel De La Torre, this workshop will teach students about the reality of white-saviorism and toxic charity and help them practice a new way of thinking about service and charity outside of these dangerous ideologies. Students who want to move out of the theoretical and undertake their project will be encouraged to submit their project for a “Racial Justice Mini-Grant,” a new initiative being organized by the Center for Experiential Learning, the Center for Mercy Heritage & Service, and The Atkins Center for Ethics. Your Voice Matters: Take the Carlow Campus Climate Survey on Sexual and Domestic Violence

Please consider taking this survey regardless of whether you have experienced unwanted sexual contact or sexual assault or not. Your perceptions are critical, and we value your feedback. The results of this confidential survey will be used to improve policies, practices, and support for students at Carlow. The deadline to complete this survey is Feb. 26!

Survey Invitation and Gift Card Giveaway: Look for the survey invitation in your email inbox or scan the QR code from posters around campus. As a thank you, you can opt to participate in a gift card giveaway at the end of the survey.

Masks Available

Please wear recommended masks that are properly fitting. Disposable, white surgical style with nose fitting and KN95 masks are available should you forget one or need to replace the one you have. Cloth masks, while fashionable, have been proven ineffective. Please stop by Campus Police Dispatch, Frances Warde Hall, to obtain one.

Testing Information for COVID-19

Please note that any student who is exempt or otherwise not yet fully vaccinated is required to test weekly. Students may share their results to Health Services using the following confidential reporting form by clicking here! Opportunities to test on-campus will be held throughout the semester, with details shared to eligible students via their Carlow emails from both Health Services and University Communications.
