Re-entry & Resiliency Plan (updated 4/18/21)
Suzanne K. Mellon, PhD, is the 10th president of Carlow University. Her presidency at Carlow has been marked by a strong emphasis on academic excellence and alignment with an evolving workforce. As a visionary leader, she has led the University through several capital campaigns and most recently completed a new strategic plan, The Carlow Commitment.
The goal is to assure the continuation of Carlow’s Catholic Mercy mission of providing a diverse community of students with transformational educational opportunities, preparing them to be leaders in the creation of a more just and merciful world.
President Mellon’s vision for the future includes expanding programs that serve the needs of the community and amplifying the University’s historic commitment to social justice while providing students with a pathway for success in the 21st-century workforce.
President Mellon was awarded “Most Admired CEOs & Top Executives” in 2016 and “Women of Influence” in 2019 by the Pittsburgh Business Times.
She holds a BSN from the University of Michigan, an MS from Ohio State University and a PhD from Wayne State University. She also holds a certification from the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Institute for Management and Leadership in Education.
Today, Carlow is applying imagination to our strategic thinking, focusing intently on the innovation and flexibility needed in today’s highly competitive and rapidly changing landscape of higher education.
What is it that Carlow University aspires to be? Who will we serve? How will we serve them? The Carlow Commitment answers these questions.
The Council on Equity, Inclusion and Community advises the president regarding diversity issues, and serves all populations of the Carlow University community by recommending, monitoring and measuring the outcomes that will help achieve the objectives as outlined in the University’s strategic plan. The council serves as the hub for strategic alliances to ensure that inclusiveness. Learn more about this council.
