Kathy Wilson Humphrey, PhD, is the 11th president of Carlow University. With more than 35 years in higher education, she is revered as a transformative and effective pioneering leader.
President Humphrey’s lifelong career has been dedicated to providing students with the best collegiate experience, with a strong focus on faculty and staff development, experiential learning opportunities, and forward-thinking research endeavors. She envisions Carlow as a University that can masterfully adapt to the ever-changing needs of students and faculty.
Dr. Humphrey was honored to join the Carlow community in July of 2021 and is diligently working toward the continued fulfillment of Carlow’s vision to become a preeminent, innovative Catholic University renowned for providing transformational learning experiences in which students realize their full potential, ultimately becoming career-ready ethical leaders committed to a just and merciful world.
President Humphrey has long been a champion for advancing diversity, equity and inclusion, working tirelessly to create an inclusive environment where all feel respected and valued. She has a robust background in government and community relations and delights in connections that benefit Carlow University, Western Pennsylvania and the world.
Described by those around her as a servant leader, President Humphrey has served on numerous boards both locally and nationally, has chaired Leadership Pittsburgh Inc., and currently serves as the chair of The Forbes Funds. She is also an active member of Macedonia Church on the Hill.
She holds a BS from the University of Central Missouri, an MA from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, and a PhD from Saint Louis University. She also holds executive certificates from Harvard Kennedy School and INSEAD in Fountainbleau, France.
The Council on Equity, Inclusion and Community advises the president regarding diversity issues, and serves all populations of the Carlow University community by recommending, monitoring and measuring the outcomes that will help achieve the objectives as outlined in the University’s strategic plan. The council serves as the hub for strategic alliances to ensure that inclusiveness. Learn more about this council.
