Vice President of Marketing and Communications

Throughout his career, John has been a passionate brand builder. He believes a brand is elevated through the emotional connections it makes with its audience at multiple touchpoints. He seeks to tell compelling, unforgettable stories grounded in strategy and always guided by each brand’s singular, unassailable position in the marketplace.

At Carlow University, his leadership has helped create a vibrant, resonant brand that truly stands out in higher education. In addition to guiding Carlow’s high-level brand vision, he oversees the implementation and integration of the brand story in content and digital marketing, social media, corporate communications, and website development.



John is a dedicated husband and extremely proud father who enjoys the outdoors as an active cyclist and recovering triathlete. He is a proud Pittsburgher, born and raised, and is committed to making a meaningful impact on the community where he and his family live and work.

April Gratton

Senior Director of Marketing, Planning, and Strategy

April is a strategic and accomplished marketing leader who combines creativity with a data-driven, analytical approach to achieve meaningful results. Recognized for her collaborative leadership style and ability to translate vision into action, she consistently inspires teams and advances organizational goals. A lifelong learner with a strong foundation in the arts and athletics, she carries her competitive spirit and artistic eye into her professional work. Outside of work, April draws energy and perspective from her passion for sports, art, and the outdoors. She lives by the mantra: Go the extra mile — it’s never crowded.
