Question: How are all areas of the University being cleaned? 

Answer: Facilities is utilizing a commercial disinfecting product that meets CDC cleaning guidelines. All classrooms and common areas throughout campus are sanitized utilizing an electrostatic sprayer and commercial disinfectant at least once a day.

Additionally, Facilities is regularly cleaning and spray disinfecting all frequently touched surfaces and objects (such as doorknobs, light switches, classroom sink handles, countertops, step railings) throughout the campus one to several times every day.

Question: Is the University doing anything to circulate air within its buildings?

Answer: Yes. Utilizing ASHRAE guidelines, there is a process in place to introduce more outside air into all buildings on campus.

Question: How will virus management be handled in the classrooms?

Answer: Facilities will plan regular cleaning schedules based on student traffic flow and days and times of class schedules.

Question: Are students, faculty or staff required to clean and disinfect spaces after use?

Answer: Yes. Self-service disinfection stations will be located throughout campus, and everyone is required to disinfect a shared or common space after use by utilizing the readily available disinfectant spray bottles located throughout campus. They can be found in bathrooms, hallways, outside of offices and common spaces. Additionally, faculty and staff should clean their personal desks/areas after every use.

Question: Are there special considerations when using a common area or meeting room on campus?

Answer: No. Facilities will be actively engaged in a regular schedule of disinfecting all common areas and meeting rooms throughout campus.

Question: Will the library and study areas be open in University Commons?

Answer: Yes. All students will be required to engage in social distancing and wear masks. Library doors will be unlocked all hours except the hours between 4:30 p.m. on Friday until 2 p.m. on Sunday. It will be staffed from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Monday thru Thursday and from 2-9 p.m. on Sunday. No staff will be in the library on Saturdays.  Study spaces are open 24 hours a day in University Commons.

Question: Will the University book store be open?

Answer: Yes. It reopened on Aug. 10 and will be open from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Hours will be extended after Aug. 24, when all students return to campus. Cleaning and sanitization will be done throughout the day in this area, and signage will indicate the number of guests permitting in the store at any given time. Masks and social distancing will be mandatory.

Question: Will the University have COVID-19-related instructional signage in place after the campus opens in the fall?

Answer: Yes. Signage is posted throughout campus and on the digital TV screens that indicate walking patterns, hygiene protocol, screenings locations and social distancing instructions.

Question: Are visitors permitted on campus?

Answer: The University encourages limitation of visitors only for essential purposes that are unable to be achieved by remote or virtual means. All visitors must execute the entry screening process. See “Monitoring and Surveillance” for additional information about screenings.

Question: Will St. Joe’s Fitness Center be open in the fall?

Answer: Yes, utilizing the American College of Sports Medicine, National Intramural and Recreation Sports Association and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania best practice guidelines. Only students will have access to this facility, and hours will be reduced to allow for daily deep cleaning protocols. There will be a limited number of people permitted in the building at any given time, and the facility will be marked for social distancing. Locker rooms and showers will be accessible per recommended guidelines.
