In a time when division can feel overwhelming, Alexandra invites us to rediscover the power of civility, ideas, and storytelling to restore dignity and strengthen our shared humanity. Drawing from her acclaimed book, she will explore timeless principles that challenge us to lead with courage, compassion, and conviction.

Following her keynote, a panel discussion will continue the conversation, exploring how we can put these ideas into action and challenging us to help shape a more just and merciful world.

Alexandra Hudson

Alexandra is passionate about the way that ideas and storytelling change people’s lives. She is an author, popular speaker, and the founder of Civic Renaissance, a publication and intellectual community dedicated to beauty, goodness and truth comprised of 50,000 intellectually curious people across the globe. A sought-after thinker and speaker, she has advised foreign governments—from The Parliament of Canada to the UK House of Lords—and is regularly heard speaking at venues such as Stanford University or Yale Law School. She was named the 2020 Novak Journalism Fellow, and contributes to CBS, PBS, C-SPAN, Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, TIME Magazine, POLITICO Magazine, and Newsweek. 

Dr. Angela Reynolds

Angela Reynolds, Ph.D., is the Chief Executive Officer of YWCA Greater Pittsburgh, leading the organization’s mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and advance educational and financial opportunity, particularly for girls and women of color. A native of New Haven, Connecticut, she holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Bryn Mawr College and both an M.S. in Statistics and Ph.D. in Policy Analysis from Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Reynolds previously served as an assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh and as Senior Director of United for Families and 2-1-1 at United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania. A highly recognized civic leader, she has received numerous honors including the ATHENA Award and the Urban League’s Ronald H. Brown Civic Leadership Award, and serves on several regional boards. She is also a mother of four, caregiver to her mother, and an associate pastor at her church.

Merilee Smith

Merilee Smith is passionate about helping people get off autopilot and lead with greater presence, intention, and connection — from the inside out. A high-impact speaker, mindset and leadership coach, and founder of Spark With Merilee, she brings nearly 30 years of experience in leadership and people development to her work. She is a Certified Professional Coach, Energy Leadership™ Index Master Practitioner, and certified facilitator of The Empowerment Dynamic (TED)®. A proud Carlow University alumna, Merilee is honored to return to the institution that shaped her own leadership journey.

Harold Hayes

Harold Hayes joined KDKA-TV in 1979 as a general assignment reporter and, over a distinguished 37 year career, covered stories ranging from military operations in the Middle East to major local court cases. His reporting took him overseas for Operation Desert Shield, Kuwait’s memorial following Desert Storm, and the funeral of Pope John Paul II, while at home he chronicled pivotal moments such as the 1981 court-ordered desegregation that led to the Woodland Hills School District merger. A Pittsburgh native and University of Pittsburgh graduate, Harold began his broadcasting career in radio and television in Illinois before returning home to KDKA, where he remained until his retirement in 2016. Beyond journalism, he has been deeply involved in community and professional organizations and remains active in his church. He and his wife Denise, whom he married in 1984, have two daughters with careers in leadership roles in Chicago and New York.
