Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

As COVID-19 developments continue to rapidly unfold before us, we would like to emphasize that first and foremost we remain cognizant of the well-being and needs of our students, faculty, and staff. We will continue to evaluate and respond to every situation that arises while remaining rooted in the longstanding core values of Carlow University.

We continue to make university-related decisions adhering to CDC protocols and guidance from the Allegheny County Health Department and other federal, state, and local entities.

Below are a few updates. We will continue to send regular centralized communications to the Carlow University community and post all information on Carlow’s website. Visit the “Carlow Alert” tab at the top of the homepage.

STUDENTS: Students are asked to self-isolate and self-report if they believe they have been exposed to or diagnosed with COVID-19. Information should be sent to Carla Bergamasco in Counseling and Health Services.

FACULTY AND STAFF: We recognize that during the University and forthcoming Campus Laboratory School Spring break, members of the Carlow community may have traveled, or will travel.

In an effort to obtain a good understanding of the Carlow community status and ensure the safety of everyone, faculty and staff are asked to self-report.

If you or any member of your department has traveled internationally within the past 14 days, or if you or a person with whom you have been in close proximity was exposed to COVID-19, please notify Human Resources. Email the information below to Bridgette Cofield JD, Assistant Vice President of Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion. She will work directly with individuals on the next steps.

  1. Where you traveled
  2. How long you were there
  3. When you returned

As a reminder, the University has cancelled all international travel for faculty, staff, and students until further notice. All non-essential domestic travel is also cancelled.

If employees have a medical plan through Highmark and UPMC, these health care providers have announced that they will cover COVID-19 testing at 100% when recommended by a medical professional. Co-pays, deductibles, and coinsurance will not apply for this testing. This applies to most Medicare Advantage, Affordable Care Act, and select employer plans. However, please check with Member Services to confirm and use the number on the back of your insurance card.

Below are employee resources:

  1. Highmark Coronavirus Informational Website
  2. UPMC Website
  3. Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Lincoln Financial – If you are experiencing stress or need additional assistance, please refer to this website for more information relating to our EAP program. (Username: LFGSupport. Password: LFGSupport1)

Event Reschedules or Cancellations

As faculty and staff communicate with their respective departments about cancellations and rescheduled events, we recognize the importance of sharing this information with the entire Carlow community through centralized communications. After your communications are sent, we ask you to share this information with marketing@carlow.edu so that information can be posted on the website and intranet. We recognize the utmost importance of keeping the community well informed.

Technology and resources are available through IT and the CDLI for academic- and event-related purposes. Please submit a Help Desk ticket for assistance.

In light of the University’s transition to online and alternate modes of instruction, there have been adjustments to the valet services hours in Lot A and Lot C.

William Penn Parking, our valet provider, will only be providing services in Lot A, Monday-Thursday until 5 p.m. and Fridays until 2 p.m. There will not be valets in Lot C. We will continue to monitor the needs and address parking issues accordingly.

We commend the extremely hard work of our Facilities Department. They have been diligently conducting thorough cleanings throughout the Carlow campus. They will begin a thorough cleaning of the Carlow Campus Laboratory School next week during their Spring break.

Thank you for your ongoing support and patience as we continue to work together to support the Carlow University Community during this very fluid, unprecedented pandemic.
