What does it mean to be human?
Carlow University offers a Humanities Department that is a combination of classical Humanities and an Applied or Practical or Public Humanities. Studying the humanities deepens our sense of self and society. Students who major or minor in a Humanities discipline can expect to engage human issues in general and public issues in particular
- The Applied Humanities focus on Humanities concepts in practical issues experienced by the general population.
- Public Humanities suggest an insertion of Humanities into public issues that affect us all.
Students who major or minor in the Humanities are better prepared for what prospective employers look for. Critical thinking, one of the first things that potential employers look for, is the intellectually disciplined process by which students can observe, analyze, reflect on, and incorporate various data of information for the purpose of creatively applying that information to practical and public issues.
