Golf athletes earn RSC Scholar-Athlete, Champions of Character honors

WOMEN'S FULL RELEASE | CHAMPIONS OF CHARACTER TEAM

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Three Carlow University athletes from the men's and two from the women's golf teams were named to the River States Conference Scholar-Athlete Team the league announced Thursday.

The 2020 RSC Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team proudly recognized 29 student-athletes from around the conference this year while the women's team recognized 24.

To be named, student-athletes must have a 3.25 grade-point average or higher, have at least two semesters of attendance prior to the current term, participate in an RSC sport and be nominated by their institution.

Below are the Carlow honorees:

Garrett Belich                   SR/Aliquippa, Pa.
Lucas Smith                      SO/Pittsburgh, Pa.
Jake Stariha                       SO/Leechburg, Pa.

Women
Maria Lamonde                SR/Pittsburgh, Pa.
Natalie Abt                       SR/Glenshaw, Pa.

There were four schools that tied for the league high in men's golf with four team members each: Brescia (Ky.) University, Midway (Ky.) University, Point Park (Pa.) University and WVU Tech. Asbury (Ky.) University led the RSC with six team members named for women's golf.

The Champions of Character team recognizes one member from each RSC school who best exemplifies the five core values of NAIA Champions of Character: Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Servant Leadership and Sportsmanship.

Honorees were nominated by their head coach for exemplifying these character traits. Lucas Smith and Natalie Abt earned the honor for the Celtics.
