CLERMONT, Fla. --- Carlow University softball ended its spring training trip with a pair of tough losses at The Spring Games Friday.

vs. Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University: L, 11-9

The Celtics (2-9) lost a narrow 11-9 game to Lawrence Technological University (9-11) in the first contest of the day. Carlow let slip a 9-5 lead late in the game.

McKenna Lampe (Rutan, Pa.) reached on an error by the third baseman and stole second and third base in the first inning. Lampe scored on an error when the second baseman dropped the ball on an attempted pick-off play, putting Carlow on the board first with an unearned run.

The Blue Devils hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead over the Celtics.

Carlow loaded the bases in the second, but Lawrence Tech got out of the jam with a strikeout against the Celtics.

Lawrence Tech added another run in the bottom of the second for a 3-1 lead before Carlow's bats got hot.

The Celtics took advantage of errors to put up four runs (three unearned) in the third inning and added another four runs in the fourth to take a 9-5 lead over the Blue Devils.

Lawrence Tech retired the Celtics in order in the top of the fifth to keep themselves in the game. The Blue Devils strung together several singles to score six runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead, and Carlow could not get a rally going into the seventh.

Amanda Hu (FR/Katy, Texas) started the game on the mound for Carlow, allowing three runs on five hits in two innings of work.

Morgan Pierce (SO/Leechburg, Pa.) pitched the remainder of the game and suffered the loss, allowing eight runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out three.

Senior Ashley Hoak (Elizabeth, Pa.) was 3 for 4 with two RBI, Adrianna Gottheld (JR/Charleroi, Pa.) went 2 for 4 with three RBI, and McKenna Lampe was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Lexie Young (JR/Leechburg, Pa.) also added an RBI in the effort.

vs. Florida National University: L, 2-1

Carlow scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, but could not hold on to the narrow lead as they were defeated, 2-1, by Florida National University (23-10).

A hard, two-out single to right-centerfield by freshman Alexandrea Bupp (Ambridge, Pa.) drove in Alysa Fairman (JR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) to score Carlow's only run of the game.

The Celtics retired the Conquistadors in order through the first three innings. Fairman did not give up a hit until the fourth inning, and Florida National did not score a run until the sixth inning.

Carlow picked up the second out of the sixth inning on a force-out play at home plate, but a single scored Florida National's two runs before the Celtics could get out of the inning. The Conquistadors retired the Celtics in order in the bottom of the seventh to hold onto the lead and the win.

Fairman pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
