CLERMONT, Fla. --- Carlow University softball won a walk-off contest to split a pair of games Thursday at The Spring Games.

vs. St. Ambrose (Iowa) University: L, 5-1

Carlow (2-7) lost the opening contest of the day, 5-1, to St. Ambrose University (13-10).

Freshman Morgan Nedley (Harrison City, Pa.) hit her first collegiate home run, a one-out solo shot over the left-centerfield fence to give the Celtics their only run of the game.

Carlow had five hits but could not bring anyone else home, leaving five stranded on base.

Morgan Pierce (SO/Leechburg, Pa.) went the distance for the Celtics, allowing five runs (four earned) and scattering nine hits over six innings of work. She recorded two strikeouts - including one in the third inning to shut down a scoring opportunity for the Fighting Bees - and three walks.

vs. Lourdes (Ohio) University: W, 7-6 (8 inn.)

The Celtics won the second game of the day in exciting walk-off fashion against Lourdes University (3-5).

It was the second time in as many days Carlow faced the Grey Wolves, but this time the Celtics came out on top.

Carlow jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Two singles, a double and a throwing error cut the Carlow lead to 4-3 in the top of the third inning.

The Celtics added another run in the bottom of the inning to lead, 5-3, heading into the fourth.

Lourdes continued to chip away at the Carlow lead, scoring a run in the top of the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game, 5-5. The Grey Wolves kept Carlow from scoring from the fourth inning on, but the Celtics also stood strong on defense to end the game deadlocked at 5-all.

The teams prepared for extra innings and the international tie-breaker rule heading into the eighth.

Lourdes struck first in the top of the inning, taking advantage of a Carlow throwing error to score a run and take their first lead of the game, 6-5.

Undeterred, the Celtics rallied in the bottom of the inning.

With one out and a runner on third, Madison Lampe (FR/Rutan, Pa.) hit a double to left field to bring in the tying run.

Lampe later scored the game-winning run when the Lourdes pitcher dropped a routine fly ball that would have ended the game.

Alysa Fairman (JR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) picked up the win after pitching a complete game for Carlow, allowing six runs (four earned) on 10 hits with two strikeouts and six walks.

Fairman helped her own cause at the plate as she went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, including a two-run home run over the centerfield fence in her first at-bat. Nedley was 2 for 3 and four Celtics recorded RBIs in the game.
