CLERMONT, Fla. --- Carlow University softball started its season
with a 4-0 loss to Hannibal-LaGrange University Sunday at The
The Celtics (0-1) had several opportunities to score throughout
the game, but the score remained deadlocked, 0-0, until the top of
Carlow's best chance against the Trojans (1-6) came in the
bottom of the second.
Annamarie Osiecki (JR/Erie, Pa.) reached on a
walk, and Hannah Gallagher (FR/Robinson Twp.,
Pa.) came in to pinch run. Ciara Murray
(SO/LaSalle, Ontario) singled to center to put runners on first and
second with one out.
Hoak (Elizabeth, Pa.) reached first on the fielder's
choice, Gallagher advanced to third and Murray was forced out at
second to give the Trojans two outs in the inning.
Hannibal-LaGrange picked up a strikeout to get out of the inning
The Trojans scored all their runs in the top of the sixth
With one out, the Trojans hit a bunt single to reach, and an
error by the Celtics allowed the runner to reach second.
Hannibal-LaGrange doubled in the next at-bat to break the scoring
stalemate and put a runner on third after the throw.
Another bunt single, an error and a single to center field
scored three unearned runs for the Trojans.
Osiecki was saddled with the loss, allowing four runs (one
earned) on five hits in two innings of work.
Alysa Fairman (JR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) started
the game, walking one and striking out one in two innings of work.
Freshman Amanda Hu (Katy, Texas) pitched two
innings, allowing one hit and striking out one, and McKenna
Lampe (FR/Rutan, Pa.) pitched the final inning and
recorded a strikeout.
