PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's basketball escaped with
a 62-59 victory over visiting Brescia (Ky.) University in a River
States Conference game Thursday at CCAC Allegheny.
The Celtics (8-12, 3-5 RSC) jumped out to an 18-9 lead over the
Bearcats (6-16, 2-6 RSC), but Brescia scored 22 points in the
second quarter to cut the Carlow lead to 32-31 heading into
The Celtics narrowly held onto the lead in the second half,
out-scoring Brescia, 13-11, in the third quarter.
Each team scored 17 points in the fourth quarter, and Brescia
ran out of time to tie the score. A jumper with just seconds on the
clock put the Bearcats within one point. Forced to foul to regain
possession, Brescia sent Ashlyn Jonczak (JR/Natron
Heights, Pa.) to the line where she sunk both shots for the

from the field. The Celtics shot 82.6 percent from the foul line
and out-rebounded the Bearcats, 42-34.
The Bearcats put up 29 points off the bench to Carlow's 19, and
the Celtics forced 19 Brescia turnovers on the night.
Senior Emma Stille (Westerville, Ohio) added
another double-double to her repertoire, leading all scorers with
20 points and pulling down 19 rebounds.
Megan Ost (SO/Apollo, Pa.)
and Jonczak added 12 and 10 points
Keagen Brownlee (SO/Pittsburgh, Pa.) dished out
six assists on the night, and Stille and Jonczak shot a perfect 6
for 6 from the free throw line.
Carlow hosts Indiana University Southeast Saturday, Jan. 25 for
a 1 p.m. game at Donahue Pavilion, Oakland Catholic High School.
