MARIETTA, Ohio --- Carlow University Track & Field started the second half of indoor season strong at the Marietta College Open at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center Saturday.

The women's team placed 6th of 7 and the men's team placed 7th of 7 at the relatively small meet.

However, it was the individual performances by the Celtics that highlighted the day.

Larissa Kijowski (JR/Dayton, Pa.) took third place on the podium and broke the school indoor record in the mile by over 20 seconds with a time of 5:39.30. Kaitlynn Melvin (SO/Belle Vernon, Pa.) came in fourth with a time of 5:59.12.

Olivia Miller (JR/Bolivar, Pa.) placed second in high jump with a height of 1.50 meters, just shy of the school indoor record of 1.51 meters she set in 2019. She also placed second in long jump with a distance of 4.91 meters.

Miller and junior Jordan Palmer (Burgettstown, Pa.) also competed in shot put for the Celtics.

Freshman Tyhir Royster (Pittsburgh, Pa.) set the pace for the men's team, breaking the school indoor record in the 300 and placing second with a time of 37.54.

He placed 4th of 20 in the 200 with a time of 23:30 - barely one second shy of the NAIA "B" qualifying standard. Royster's time of 6.73 earned him 5th in the 55-meter sprint. This set the indoor record for Carlow as the first time someone has competed in the event.

Senior Javondii Myers (Columbia, S.C.) earned points for the Celtics by placing second in high jump with a height of 1.95 meters. He placed eighth in long jump with a distance of 5.86 meters.

Joseph Palmieri (JR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished the one-mile event for Carlow in 5:45.47, and Devin Lewis (SR/Charlotte, N.C.) competed in shot put, throwing a distance of 8.96 meters.

Carlow travels to Youngstown State for a meet on Friday, Jan. 17. Links to live coverage are available at https://bit.ly/Track1920.
