RIO GRANDE, Ohio --- Carlow University women's basketball lost a
back-and-forth battle against River States Conference opponent
University of Rio Grande, 90-80, Saturday.
The Celtics (6-6, 1-2 RSC) tied the game several times and
briefly took the lead throughout the first quarter against the
RedStorm (7-6, 2-0 RSC).
Carlow led the majority of the second quarter, trailing just
36-33 at halftime, after two made buckets in the paint by Rio
The Celtics were down by one point with 8:11 left in the third
quarter when Rio Grande took off on an 11-2 run. Carlow cut the
lead to 57-52 at the end of the third.
Rio Grande got ahead by several points and maintained a healthy
distance from the Celtics throughout the fourth quarter to pull out
Carlow shot just 34 percent from the field compared to the
RedStorm's 53 percent. The Celtics shot 76 percent from the free
throw line on the day, picking up 22 points at the line.
Carlow had 15 steals and committed just 13 turnovers while
forcing 28 Rio Grande turnovers on the day. The Celtics scored 30
points off RedStorm turnovers.
Rio Grande scored 22 points off the bench, and out-scored the
Celtics, 44-22, in points in the paint. The RedStorm out-rebounded
the Celtics, 54-28.
Sophomore Angelica Orozco (Filmore,
Calif.) scored a career- and season-high 27 points, which included
four treys. Kamryn Lach (SO/Bethel Park, Pa.)
added four treys of her own and scored 21 points, and
Delaney Daly (SR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) added
Carlow hosts NCAA DII Lock Haven University Sunday, Dec. 15 for
a 2 p.m. game at Donahue Pavilion. Admission to Oakland Catholic
