Volleyball drops final game of the season against IU East

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University volleyball had a great second set against visiting Indiana University East Saturday, but ultimately lost, 3-0.

It was the Celtics' final game of the season, played at St. Joseph Center.

IU East (18-14, 9-7 RSC), who are ranked third in the RSC East Division standings, went on a 9-0 run that included four aces in a row and hit .441 in the first set to win, 25-12.

Carlow (6-20, 0-16 RSC) fared better in the second set and almost came up with the win. The team tied the game several times and went on a 4-0 run at one point in the set. But the Red Wolves came through and finished the game, 25-22.

IU East hit .313 in the final set to win, 25-16. The Celtics led, 6-5, early on, but the Red Wolves went on an 8-2 run to take the lead and remained out of reach.

Freshman Ellie Cook (Connellsville, Pa.) hit .308 on the day with five kills and 11 digs. Sabrina Skukalek (FR/Sewickley, Pa.) had 13 assists.

IU East had 51 kills to Carlow's 19 and hit .333 overall.
