PITTSBURGH - Carlow University women's soccer celebrated Senior Night with its first win in conference action, 1-0, over crosstown rival Point Park University Thursday at Highmark Stadium.

Carlow (3-7-4, 1-1-4 RSC) maintained control most of the game, out-shooting the Pioneers (4-9-1, 2-3-1 RSC), 27-8 (16-7 on goal).

Senior Franki Berarducci (West Newton, Pa.) scored her first goal of the season in the 35th minute, and the Celtics held on to that lead for the remainder of the match.

Alexa Schwab (JR/Conway, Pa.) missed an open net in the 41st minute after Point Park's goalkeeper slipped up at the 18. With just a few minutes remaining in the half, Abby Marinucci (SO/Uniontown, Pa.) got past the Pioneers' defense, but Ashtyn Webb came up with the save.

Schwab and Natalie DiGiorno (FR/Bethel Park, Pa.) each added four and five shots on goal respectively.

Lauren Forte (SO/Johnstown, Pa.) stopped seven shots in the complete game effort, and Carlow held a 5-1 corner kick advantage.

Before the game, the Celtics honored seniors Berarducci, Rachel Flory (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Lexi Houk (Beaver Falls, Pa.), Malak Shuman (Monroeville, Pa.) and Paige Schindehette (Bethel Park, Pa.).

The win bumps the Celtics up to sixth in the conference standings. This season, the playoffs are based on a point system where a win equals three points, a tie equals one and no points are awarded for a loss in RSC play.

Carlow travels to the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) for a 5 p.m. RSC game on Oct. 24. Links to live coverage can be found at https://bit.ly/WSOC19.
