Cross Country competes on ‘home’ course at Carnegie Mellon Invite

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University cross country ran its "home" course at Schenley Park for the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational Saturday.

The women's team placed 12th of 15 teams in the 5k race. Junior Larissa Kijowski (Dayton, Pa.) broke a top-10 finish, placing eighth of 133 with a time of 19:41.

Rachel Jones (SO/Holbrook, Pa.), Amanda Espy (JR/Oil City, Pa.), Bailey Rohm (FR/Uniontown, Pa.) and Sydney Achtzehn (SO/Greensburg, Pa.) rounded out the top five finishers for the Celtics.

Duquesne's team finished in first place with 56 points, and Point Park's Alyssa Campbell won the individual title with a time of 18:36.

The men's team had only two runners due to injuries. Joseph Palmieri (JR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished 96th of 110 with a time of 32:54 in the 8k race. Evan Antes (SO/North Versailles, Pa.) finished with a time of 33:51.

Benjamin Foster of Denison won the individual men's title with a 26:07 first place finish. Host school Carnegie Mellon took the men's team title.

The cross country teams travel to the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge in Michigan on Oct. 26.
