Midway (Ky.) hands Women’s Soccer first loss in RSC action

MIDWAY, Ky. --- Carlow University women's soccer fell short in a 4-3 loss on the road against Midway (Ky.) University in a River States Conference game Saturday.

Carlow (2-7-3, 0-1-3 RSC) out-shot the Eagles, 25-17, but Midway came out on top.

The Eagles (6-4-1, 1-2-1 RSC) struck first in the 19th minute, but Alexandra Houk (SR/Beaver Falls, Pa.) evened the score in the 23rd minute on an assist by Michaela Pry (SO/Monongahela, Pa.) to send the teams into the locker rooms at halftime tied, 1-1.

Midway scored at 46', but Carlow answered just minutes later when Rachel Flory (SR/Huntington Beach, Calif.) found Alexa Schwab (JR/Conway, Pa.) in the box.

Tied, 2-2, freshman Natalie DiGiorno (Bethel Park, Pa.) gave the Celtics a 3-2 lead on an unassisted goal at 55'.

Midway scored its final two goals in the 67th minute - just 30 seconds apart - and kept Carlow off the board for the remaining 23 minutes to win, 4-3.

DiGiorno and Schwab each had four shots on goal, and Houk and Malak Shuman (SR/Monroeville, Pa.) added three apiece.

Freshman goalkeeper Anya Achtyl (Lancaster, N.Y.) was saddled with the loss, despite making seven saves on the day.
