Rio Grande volleyball opens conference action with win over Celtics

PITTSBURGH --- The University of Rio Grande (Ohio) volleyball picked up a quick, 3-0, River States Conference win over Carlow University in St. Joseph Athletic & Fitness Center Friday night.

Rio Grande's experienced team, comprised mainly of juniors and seniors, capitalized on Carlow's relatively young squad.

The RedStorm (10-3, 1-0 RSC) started out slow, but quickly gained momentum as the first match transpired. Up, 13-7, Rio Grande won a big rally to shift into gear. The RedStorm won the first set, 25-12.

Carlow had a slow start in the second set and was not able to recover, losing 25-14. The RedStorm swept the match in the third set, 25-13.

Carlow (6-4, 0-2 RSC, 6-2 USCAA) hit just .069 on the night. Sabrina Skukalek (FR/Sewickley, Pa.) had the only double-digit stat of the game with 13 assists.
