Volleyball routs Penn State Beaver in home match

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University volleyball took a 3-1 USCAA contest from Penn State Beaver Thursday night at the St. Joseph Athletic & Fitness Center.

The Celtics improved to 6-2 on the season with the win. Carlow started out strong, winning the first set of the match, 25-19.

Penn State Beaver kept it close in the second set, finally tying the game at 22 apiece. The Lions pulled away to win the second set by two, 26-24.

Penn State Beaver took an early lead in the third set, but the Celtics turned the game around and won, 25-21.

The Celtics went on a 12-2 run in the third set before the Lions found their footing. Carlow finished the set and match, 25-11.

Cache Street (SR/Wilmerding, Pa.) hit .342 on the night with 16 kills. Freshman Ellie Cook (Connellsville, Pa.) added 10 kills and eight digs. Sabrina Skukalek (FR/Sewickley, Pa.) added 34 assists.

Carlow hit .321 as a team in the fourth set and had 50 kills to the Lions' 27.

The Celtics host crosstown rival Point Park University Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
