PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's soccer lost a tough, physical contest, 2-0, to visiting Lake Erie College Friday at Highmark Stadium.

It was the Storm's first match of the season, and they commanded the game for the majority of the first half.

Haley Scherer scored both goals for the Storm. The first came in the 16th minute on a pass into the box from teammate Peyton Frankovich.

Carlow (2-3, 0-0 RSC, 1-0 USCAA) had a chance to tie the game in the 20th minute when a shot by Alexa Schwab (JR/Conway, Pa.) pinged off the crossbar.

Scherer scored the second goal in the 41st minute after a shot ricocheted off the gloves of goalkeeper Lauren Forte (SO/Johnstown, Pa.) and landed right at Scherer's feet. A quick touch put it in the back of the net and put the Storm up, 2-0, heading into halftime.

That proved to be enough to keep the Celtics at bay.

Carlow had a stronger showing in the second half, but could not get a shot to fall. Schwab had three of the Celtics' four shots on goal.

Paige Schindehette (SR/Bethel Park, Pa.) took over in goal during the second half, stopping two shots. It was her first 45 min. in goal since coming off a preseason injury.

Lake Erie out-shot the Celtics 7-3 in the first half, and each team tallied double-digit fouls.

Carlow hosts Westminster College for a nonconference game Monday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. at Highmark Stadium. Links to live coverage can be found at
