DUBOIS, Pa. --- Carlow University fell into the elimination bracket after a 4-1 loss to No. 3 seed Mississippi University for Women in the Small College World Series Monday.

The Celtics (18-21) fell behind early to the Owls (23-9).

With two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, the Owls hit back to back singles to score three unearned runs.

The Celtics cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the fifth. Adrianna Gottheld (SO/Charleroi, Pa.) put down a lead-off bunt to get on base, and Danielle Levato (SR/Beaver Falls, Pa.) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move her into scoring position.

Ashley Hoak (JR/Elizabeth, Pa.) drew a walk to put runners on first and second, and Abby Stroud (JR/New Egypt, N.J.) singled to load the bases.

Sophomore Tristan Voss (Enon Valley, Pa.) reached on a fielder’s choice that allowed Gottheld to score.

The Owls added another run in the bottom of the sixth, and the Celtics ran out of time to score again. The Owls left eight Carlow runners stranded.

Stroud took the loss, allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits while striking out six in six innings of work. She was 2 for 3 at the plate with a triple.
