NORFOLK, Va. -- Carlow University softball earned a bid to the USCAA Small College World Series as the No. 6 seed in the 10-team, double elimination tournament the league announced Tuesday.

Carlow faces No. 3 Mississippi University for Women (22-9) Monday, May 13 at 4 p.m. at Rose and Dennis Heindl Memorial Field.

The Celtics (18-20, 8-10 RSC, 1-1 USCAA) were eliminated from the River States Conference tournament as the No. 5 seed last week.

The softball program at The W was reestablished in 2017-18, and it is the second year the Owls have reached the SCWS.

The Owls’ Madison Scoggin is second in the USCAA behind Abby Stroud (JR/New Egypt, N.J.) with a 1.49 ERA. Stroud boasts a 1.36 ERA, which earned her All-RSC First Team honors.

As a team, the Owls are batting .325 coming into the tournament. Senior Heidi Matthews leads her team with a .371 batting average and is fifth in the league with 22 total stolen bases, and there are five other seniors batting over .333 this season.

Carlow is the only team in the tournament to have beaten defending national champion and No. 1 seed Cleary (Mich.) University this season. The Celtics defeated the Cougars, 5-2, during spring training in Clermont, Fla. on March 8.

Banquet tickets are limited, and game day tickets are $10 per game or $28 for the entire tournament. Tickets can be purchased online at the link above.
