Softball ends up 3-1 on RSC road trip after split with Asbury (Ky.)

WILMORE, Ky. -- Carlow University split a pair of River States Conference games with Asbury (Ky.) University Saturday, winning the first game, 1-0, and losing, 9-3, in the nightcap.

Carlow (13-11, 6-4 RSC) eked out a win in the first game, scoring one unearned run in the top of the fourth.

Junior Abby Stroud (New Egypt, N.J.) reached on an error by the shortstop to start the inning.

Tristan Voss (SO/Enon Valley, Pa.) singled to move her over, and the pair stole a base to put runners on second and third with no outs.

Voss was tagged out in the next at-bat, which gave Stroud enough time to make it home.

Stroud put the Asbury batters away in order through five innings before the Eagles (8-22, 3-9 RSC) got a hit in the two-hit shutout. She struck out five in the complete game effort.

Game 2

Asbury took advantage of costly Carlow errors to take the second game, 9-3.

The Eagles scored a run in the first, three runs in the second and two runs in the third.

Stroud hit a two-out RBI single to score a run in the top of the fifth to break the scoring drought for the Celtics, making the score 6-1.

Carlow added its final two runs in the top of the sixth.

Sophomore Olivia Graff (Natrona Heights, Pa.) reach on an error by the shortstop. A one-out single by Sofia Papageorge (SR/Beaver Falls, Pa.) put runners in scoring position.

Keyara Morgan (SO/Imler, Pa.) reached on a fielder’s choice to put runners on the corners, and freshman Ciara Murray (Windsor, Ontario) hit a two-out single to bring them both around, cutting the Asbury lead to 6-3.

Asbury added three insurance runs in the bottom half of the inning and took down the Celtics in order in the seventh.

Carlow hosts Penn State Beaver April 9 for a USCAA doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. at Lind Field.
