Ave Maria (Fla.) bests Women’s Basketball in home opener

PITTSBURGH – The Carlow University women’s basketball team lost, 62-53, to Ave Maria (Fla.) University in their home opener Nov. 10 at Oakland Catholic High School.

The Celtics (0-1, 0-0 RSC, 0-0 USCAA) led 25-23 at halftime, but the Gyrenes (6-1) out-scored Carlow in the second half, 39-28.

Junior Emma Stille (Columbus, Ohio) put up a double-double 15 points and 15 rebounds, and Emily Grandy (FR/Sharpsville, Pa.) added 13 points.

The Celtics shot 66.7 percent from the free throw line.

Carlow hosts Saint Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) College Nov. 15 for a 7:30 p.m. USCAA game.
