Volleyball ekes out conference win over Cincinnati Christian

PITTSBURGH -- Carlow University volleyball won a back-and-forth River States Conference match, 3-2, against Cincinnati Christian University Friday, Oct. 19 at Oakland Catholic High School.

The Celtics (8-13, 3-6 RSC, 5-3 USCAA) took the first set, 27-25, after exchanging leads with the Eagles (5-15, 0-10 RSC) several times.

Costly errors led Carlow to a 25-14 loss in the second set, but the Celtics came back to win 27-25 again in the third set.

Ahead 2-1, the Celtics narrowly lost the fourth set, 25-22, before taking advantage of Cincinnati Christian errors to win the fifth set, 15-10.

Senior Michaela Koran (North Olmsted, Ohio) had 15 kills and 18 assists, and sophomore Cache Street (Wilmerding, Pa.) added 13 kills.

Jenna Albert (FR/Monongahela, Pa.) set 22 assists, and Mandy Toman (SR/Beulah, Colo.) and Mariah Lomire (FR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) each had 15 digs.

Cincinnati Christian had an attack percentage of .232 compared to Carlow’s .178, but the Celtics took advantage of Eagles errors.

Carlow hosts Indiana University Kokomo Saturday, Oct. 20 for a 12 p.m. RSC match. The Cougars are currently undefeated in conference action.
