Carlow University volleyball went 1-1 during a River States Conference road trip this weekend, falling to Indiana University East, 3-0, on Friday and beating Ohio Christian University, 3-2, on Saturday.
The Celtics (7-13, 2-6 RSC, 5-3 USCAA) picked up their first win since Sept. 26 against the Trailblazers (2-15, 1-9 RSC) on Oct. 13, winning 3-2.
Carlow won the first set, 25-21, before falling in the next two sets, 25-15 and 25-17.
Exotica Hall (FR/Yokosuka, Japan) led the team with 12 kills, and senior Michaela Koran (North Olmsted, Ohio) added a double-double with 10 kills and 19 assists.
Freshman Jenna Albert (Monongahela, Pa.) set up 21 assists and added four kills, and Mariah Lomire (FR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) put up 28 digs.
The Celtics rallied and took the final two sets 25-15 and 15-9 for the win.
Carlow had a team total of six blocks, and capitalized on Ohio Christian’s 30 attacking errors.
On Friday, Oct. 12, the Celtics lost 3-0 to Indiana University East (18-6, 8-2 RSC) in Richmond, Ind.
The Red Wolves are currently sitting in second place in the RSC East division, and beat the Celtics 25-16, 25-16 and 25-23.
The final match was tied 8-8, before IU East pulled away to extend the lead to 19-11.
The Celtics rallied and cut the lead to 19-17. It was a back and forth game until the very end when Carlow tied the game 22-22 and briefly took the lead, 23-22, before IU East added two kills in a row to end the game.
Sophomore Cache Street (Wilmerding, Pa.) and senior Mandy Toman (Beulah, Colo.) each had eight kills on the day, and Albert added 11 assists.
Lomire had 16 digs in the effort, but the Red Wolves had a .267 attack percentage compared to Carlow’s .096.
Carlow hosts Cincinnati Christian University Oct. 19 for a River States Conference match at 7 p.m. at Oakland Catholic High School.
