Women’s Soccer stuns crosstown rival Point Park to remain undefeated in RSC

PITTSBURGH -- Carlow University women’s soccer extended its unbeaten streak to seven in a 4-1 win over crosstown rival Point Park University on Thursday, Oct. 11 at Highmark Stadium.

With the win over Point Park (8-5, 5-1 RSC), the Celtics (6-4-1, 5-0-1 RSC, 2-0 USCAA) remain unbeaten in River States Conference action so far this season. Carlow faces Asbury (Ky.) University and Midway (Ky.) University on a conference road trip Oct. 18 and 20.

Point Park struck first early on the in game, and held on to a 1-0 lead for almost the entire first half.

Junior Alexa Schwab (Conway, Pa.) tied it up, 1-1, just seconds before halftime on a rebound in the box.

With the score tied, Carlow returned in the second half with a renewed fire.

Lexie Houk (JR/Racine, Pa.) scored the game-winning goal in the 69th minute off a rebound on a corner kick to put the Celtics up, 2-1.

But the Celtics were not finished yet.

Carlow scored back to back goals at 74’ and 76’.

Schwab scored unassisted on a shot from 25 yards out after the Pioneers failed to clear the ball, and Kristina Wallace (SR/Jeannette, Pa.) sealed the deal on a penalty kick at 76’ for the final score, 4-1.

The game was evenly matched, with shots 12-11 in favor of Carlow. The Celtics held a 7-4 corner kick advantage.

Paige Schindehette (SO/Bethel Park, Pa.) stopped six shots during 90 minutes in goal, improving her GAA to 1.05.

Carlow travels to Washington Adventist University, Monday, Oct. 15 for a 5:30 p.m. USCAA game.
