Men’s Soccer bested by NAIA No. 7-ranked Rio Grande (Ohio)

PITTSBURGH -- Carlow University men’s soccer lost a tough contest against NAIA No. 7-ranked University of Rio Grande (Ohio), 16-0, Saturday, Sept. 29 at Highmark Stadium.

The undefeated Red Storm (9-0, 3-0 RSC) did not allow the Celtics (3-5, 0-4 RSC, 2-0 USCAA) a single shot the entire game.

Rio Grande is ranked No. 7 in the nation in the NAIA. They’ve allowed only one goal so far this season, Aug. 31 against Goshen College.

The Red Storm held an 11-1 corner kick advantage in the game.

Rio Grande scored just one minute into the contest, putting 10 points on the board before halftime, including an own goal at 19’ and a penalty kick at 40’. The Red Storm added six more goals after the half.

Carlow’s Adam Myers (JR/McKeesport, Pa.) showed a valiant effort, stopping nine shots in the barrage from Rio Grande in 72 minutes in goal. Sophomore Wyatt Schueler (Pittsburgh, Pa.) played the remainder of the game in goal, stopping one shot.

The Celtics host Washington Adventist University for a USCAA match on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
