Women’s Soccer wins overtime match against RSC opponent WVU Tech

PITTSBURGH --- Senior forward Kristina Wallace (Jeannette, Pa.) scored the game-winning goal five minutes into overtime to lift the Carlow University women’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over River States Conference opponent West Virginia University Institute of Technology Thursday, Sept. 27 at Highmark Stadium.

The Celtics (3-4, 3-0 RSC, 1-0 USCAA) improve to 3-0 in conference action with the win.

Carlow controlled the game much of the first half over the Golden Bears (4-3, 1-1 RSC), although shots remained evenly matched at four each heading into halftime.

WVU Tech out-shot Carlow, 8-1, in the second half, but sophomore goalkeeper Paige Schindehette (Bethel Park, Pa.) came up with a few nice saves to keep the Celtics in the game. Schindehette earned the shutout with five saves on the night.

The score tied 0-0 at the end of regulation forced overtime.

Carlow took a corner kick, and the rebound bounced right to Wallace who headed it into the goal amidst the shuffle in the 95th minute.

The Celtics host the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) for another RSC match Sept. 29 at 11 a.m.
