Abt opens season strong at CMU Fall Shootout

Natalie Abt led the Carlow women’s golf team in its first competition of the season at the Carnegie Mellon University Fall Shootout on Sept. 15-16.

Abt (JR/Glenshaw, Pa.) finished tied for 12th in a field of 50 golfers from 10 NAIA, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III teams.

She fired a 4-over 78 in her first round on Saturday, giving her a five-way share of fourth place heading into the second round at The Links at Spring Church.

On Saturday, she shot an 84 to finish with a 162 (78-84) total on the par-72, 36-hole, 5,830-yard course.

Charlotte Simpson, of Carnegie Mellon, was the individual medalist with a two-over 150 (78-72). She also led the Tartans to the team victory, with a combined score of 617.

The Celtics, who finished 10th in the team standings, next host Waynesburg University on Sept. 22, at Youghiogheny Country Club.
