The Carlow men’s golf team gave a strong season-opening performance but lost by four strokes to Waynesburg University on Friday, Sept. 7, at Youghiogheny Country Club.
The Yellow Jackets scored 365 and the Celtics scored 369 on the par-72, 6,375-yard course.
Carlow sophomore Louis Stefanik (SO/Vandergrift, Pa.) had the low round of the day for both teams, with a 77.
He led a group of four freshmen making their collegiate debut. Jake Stariha (FR/Leechburg, Pa.) also shot a solid 85 for the Celtics.
The women’s match scheduled for Saturday against Grove City College was canceled due to poor weather.
The Celtics next compete at the Carnegie Mellon University Shootout, at the Links at Spring Church, on Sept. 15-16.
