Celtics fall to UPJ in men’s soccer

The Carlow men’s soccer team fell to Pitt-Johnstown, 2-0, on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Highmark Stadium.

The Celtics (1-1/0-0/1-0) held the advantage in shots (16-13) and corner kicks (5-2). However, UPJ (1-1) put four shots on goal and converted two of them, while Carlow put three on and could not find the net.

The NCAA Division II Mountain Cats scored just five minutes into the contest and again with just five minutes remaining.

Clay Cottman headed in the first goal, assisted by Alex Laslavic. DJ Vogelman notched the second on a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Jonathan Reboton picked up the shutout for his first win of the season.

For the Celtics, Adam Myers (JR/McKeesport, Pa.) made two saves in goal. Launthar Eh (FR/Pittsburgh, Pa.), Zach Straub (SO/Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Tim Kuehn (JR/Venetia, Pa.) each earned a shot on goal.

The Celtics next play Saturday, at Penn State Beaver.
