Celtics place two in top five at Saint Vincent Early Bird Invitational

The Carlow women’s cross country team opened the season at the Saint Vincent College Early Bird Invitational on Friday, Aug. 31.

Amanda Espy (SO/Oil City, Pa.) finished third overall, with a time of 26:32.54 for an 8:32 pace in the 6K race. Larissa Kijowski (SO/Dayton, Pa.) finished fifth, in 26:52.78.

Saint Vincent freshmen Emma Andrasko (25:17.55) and Laura Aston (26:00.58) finished first and second, respectively.

Saint Vincent scored 20 points with an average time of 26:38.04. Carlow scored 41 points with an average time of 28:09.67. Westmoreland County Community College rounded out the field, but had just three runners and no team score.

The rest of Carlow’s finishers were Clare Brown (SR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) at 13th in 28:50.27, Rachel Jones (FR/Holbrook, Pa.) at 14th in 28:52.51, Olivia Miller (SO/Bolivar, Pa.) at 16th in 29:40.26, Megan Horgan (JR/Bethel Park, Pa.) at 19th in 32:27.99, Katie Winter (JR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) at 20th in 32:34.50, and Gabby Kluger (Yorktown Heights, Pa.) at 22nd in 35:29.46.

The Celtics will be familiar with the course for their next meet. They return for the Saint Vincent College Invitational on Sept. 15.
